Goten and Trunks only saw SSJ 3 once, so how could two little kids learn what took Goku years to accomplish?

The power of plot.

Or maybe turning SSj3 is just easier the stronger you are.

I'm gonna say its because they were fused. Having 2 bodies in one gives you more durability making it easier to force your way to SS3.
"The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!"

Children have a higher learning curve than adults I think and plus the motivation was there, Goten just watched his mother be turned into an egg and squished and Vegeta just sacrificed himself in vain.

I also think they just forced out. It's one of the benefits of having a stronger body (when fused).

I think it's because of the fusion provided Gotenks with load of Ki to able to reach the Super Saiya-jin 3 form or mastery of controlling his own Ki.

They were extremely gifted kids on their own, and that potential landslided into Gotenks. Add the rigors of the room and you've got a plot-induced new transformation. It's very believable to me looking at it that way.

If your dormant potential is high enough it's something that naturally comes easier for you. There's no special trick to attaining SSJ forms subsequent to the original.

Well...we have Goten and Trunks' Potential >Gohan, Goku and Vegeta. So when you add both massive potentials together logic dictates that it's only a matter of time before SS3 was going to happen. Then to top it off, it's like everyone else said...the plot.

Or they simply weren't as naturally closed minded as Gohan and Vegeta so it was easy to look within, find that energy, and bring it out despite how unnatural it may have felt. Goku has a kid like mind and outlook on life, true simpleton in general, whereas Vegeta and Gohan would think too much about said transformation.

To me the proof is in the fact they didn't have Goku try to teach him that and train with the Z sword at the same time thus maximizing their chances of winning since no one knew of Old Kai

Goten and Trunks always wanted be SSJ3 over the fusion, when a kid wants something almost nothing stops them from getting it. Combined with the plot that's how Gotenks did it.

Also as mad as Goten was Gotenks might have went SSJ2 on the first fusion.

Plot. They can't even turn SSJ2 and they learned SSJ3... lol.. it's laughable.

If the Buu Saga suppose to have the Disney influence then maybe Gotenks reaching Super Saiyan 3 possibly something to do with magic.

EDIT: I'm using Kaboom's Super Saiyan 3 logic here and Toriyama is a fan of classic Disney movies.

You talking bout Gotenks? Thought it was established that he could go SSJ2 already.

I think he's saying the kids couldn't achieve SSjin2 on their yet they achieved SSjin3 as Gotenks, which he finds laughable.
